Mangaluru: Following the controversy of Rickshaw permits being sold in the black, the Regional Transport Authority has decided to bar the transfer of permits issued for one autorickshaw driver to another driver. It also decided to cancel additional permits issued in the name of one person.

The decision comes in the wake of a meeting the autorickshaw drivers had with the DC, A. B Ibrahim recently. They had  alleged at the meeting that permits were being transferred at a cost of around Rs. 2 lakh. The drivers alleged that eligible unemployed youth were denied permit while it was being granted to persons who already had permits.

Mr. Ibrahim directed Regional Transport Officer Afzal Ahmed Khan to issue permits only to the person who runs the authorickshaw and to cancel additional permits in name of one person.

He also directed officials from the Mangalore City Corporation, Backward Classes Development Corporation, SC/ST Development Corporation and Minority Development Corporation to scrutinize applications for auto rickshaws to ensure that only deserving persons get auto rickshaw permits.
