Fredrick Fernandes, one of the most senior inhabitants in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, breathed his last on April 16 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family members at his home in Surathkal, situated approximately 15 km from Mangaluru.
Born on October 22, 1921, in the composite parish of Angelore, Fredrick Fernandes received his early education at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Kankanady and completed his 11th standard at St. Aloysius College in Mangaluru. His professional journey took him to Mumbai, where he secured employment with Nestle, followed by stints at ‘May and Baker’ and ‘Britannia’ companies.
In a notable interview with Daijiworld TV last year, Fernandes fondly recounted his memories, including encounters with prominent figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Pope John Paul II, and Queen Elizabeth during his time in Mumbai.
Survived by his wife, Lilly Fernandes, and four children, funeral arrangements for Fredrick Fernandes are currently awaited.
