Mangalore: The office of the Sub-Registrar and Registrar of Marriages in Mangalore was burgled on the night of June 13, Thursday. The theft came to light on June 14, Friday morning.
It is immediately not known as to what has been stolen. However, sources said a cash of Rs 65,000 has been stolen. The thieves have broke open the cupboards in the office which stores several valuable records many having no back-up copies.
Forensic and finger print experts have been pressed into service, Pandeshwar police are investigating the case.It is learnt the place had just one watchman on duty.
Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo who visited the office assured that the thieves would be apprehended soon. He also emphasized the need to have a separate room to stock documents in such an important office. He also assured to take up the issue with the government.
The registration works scheduled for Friday have been postponed till tomorrow.
