Notorious criminal arrested; 3 kg charas seized

Kasargod:  A Police team led by Kasargod DySP  T.P. Ranjith has on Tuesday August 12 night arrested a notorious criminal who is also an accused in a murder case. He was also found in possession of 3kg charas.

The accused is Abdul Latif alias Vananda Latif (35) of Arikkadi Uluvar. A bike and lethal weapons have been recovered from him.

Police have informed that Abdul Latif is an accused in the case of the murder of a youth named Shameel which was reported from Kumble Arikkady five years ago. He is also facing the charges of pushing into the well a resident of Uppala after taking him to Talachery.

Police also stated that he was  wanted in  a Belgaum bank dacoity  and also the case of assaulting Kumble SI  P Narayanan who had been to arrest him about one and a half years ago.

Police had once earlier  arrested  him in the Kanhangad Bank robbery case. Among the several cases in which he is involved include the case of looting  tourists in Ooty about one and a half months ago. It is learnt he was arrested in this case and later released on bail.

The police who raided his house have seized two iron rods, screw drivers, machete etc. In another development, police  also found pieces of currency notes of 1000 and 500 denominations. He is learnt to have admitted during interrogation that his was hawala money.

 Meanwhile, police found that he had tied fabric sheets  all over his body and the accused is learnt to have told that he had done so to shield himself as he was facing life threat. Police  suspect that  he used to transport drugs  in between the sheets worn on his body.

Further investigations are underway.
