Noted Konkani poet Leo DSouza no more

Mangalore:Renowned Konkani poet Leo John D’Souza(79) has passed away at Bangalore on October 10, Thursday morning. Leo D’Souza who was popularly known as Liyab in literary circles was recently discharged from the St John’s Hospital where he was admitted following an illness.  He is survived by his wife Mary, two daughters and two sons.

Leo John D’Souza who  hailed from Bikarnakatte in Mangalore was a popular Konkani poet and author who has penned thousands of poems. He had to his credit over 3000 poems   which he had authored under the pen name Kavyadas. The poems have been compiled in a book called ‘Dev Haslo’ which has even been translated into English and given the title ‘And God Smiled.’

Leo D’Souza  was even associated with Raknno as its Associate Editor and had also worked for Sandesha as its Manager. “Putha Patim Ye” is the name of a Konkani novel authored by him. He had also won the Sandesha Award,  Konkani Academy Award and Mathias Family Poetry Award given by Kavitha Trust.
