Nonseasonal weather lashes Bantwal; lightning leaves one dead

Bantwal: Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, lashed various parts of Bantwal here on Monday and claimed the life of a 16 year old boy, injuring another girl.

The deceased is identified as Abubakkar Siddiq (16) son of Isubu from Banglegudde in Panemangalore. The victim was standing under a Mango tree near his house when the lightning struck. Soon he was taken to a nearby hospital but in vain.

Born in a poor family, he was an SSLC student of Sharada High school and was expecting his final results on Tuesday.

The revenue officer has offered Rs 4 lakhs to the victim’s family from the Natural disaster fund.

District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Taluk Panchayath member B Padmashekhar Jain, Councillor Abubakkar Siddiq visited the hospital.

Vanitha daughter of Susheela from Kadeshivalya was also injured due to thunder and has been taken to Kalladka hospital.

Houses and crop damaged

The rain with wind storm also damaged more than 60 houses in the Taluk. The agricultural loss in Netlamudnoor and Anantady villages is estimated around Rs 26 lacs and crops in one acre of land have been destroyed due to rain.

Electricity supply

Electric pole fallen on the road at Punjady in Panjikallu village affected bus service. The tower of Talapady mosque near B C Road was also damaged due to lightening.

Train service affected

Due to heavy rain a huge tree was uprooted near the Bengalruru- Mangaluru rail tracks near Kuppila which affected the train service for more than hour. The locals informed the B C Road railway station, stopped the train and cleared the track.

Traffic Jam

The traffic jam in B C Road continued even on Monday along with rain. The traffic got affected as locals seized sand lorries here in Ramalkatte. Work on the railway minor bridge was also affected due to sudden rain.
