Mangaluru: Fish transport vehicles from outside the state will not be allowed to enter the Dakshina Kannada district from today, April 27.
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said that since it is becoming difficult to maintain social distancing in the Dakshina Kannada district, vehicles ferrying fish from outside the state are banned from entering the district henceforth. As the district has been witnessing several new cases of COVID-19, taking precautionary measures is very essential, the Minister said.
A few days ago, Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, MLA U T Khader and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials had visited the old port area and identified a separate space for the fish transporting lorries from outside the state to sell to the retailers.
Now that the ban has been imposed on outside transport vehicles, fish selling activities will be stopped between Dakshina Kannada district and other states until the next order.
