Bantwal: The endosulfan tragedy that gripped parts of Kasargod and Dakshina Kannada is undoubtedly one of the most ugly faces of man-made tragedies. Even as it sometimes comes to appear that the endo impact may have come to an end, the appearance of seven new cases of endo inflicted disabilities in Bantwal alone, paints a petrifying picture of how the deadly clutches of endosulfan still continues to crush the future of young lives.Recently a chilling incident of an aged couple and their two adult endo-victim sons ending lives by plunging into a lake at Kokkada unveiled the helpless lives led by the endo victims and their families.

Though the governments over the years have announced that they are committed to providing facilities to endo victims, the pangs of endo victims simply does not subside.

There were 375 endo victims and recently seven new cases have been identified in Bantwal.

The number stands at 108 when documents of eight Primary Health Centres and Karnataka-Kasargod border adjoining Adyanadka of Bantwal are taking into consideration.

Out of the seven new cases, one is a 16-year-old girl who is visually impaired. Though she had the problem since her birth, it was attributed to endosulfan only recently.

Another victim is 10-year-old boy who is deaf. An eight-year-old boy with mental disability, another eight-year-old boy with physical infirmity, a pair of twins with mental retardation are some of the new cases which came to light at a much later stage. The seventh case is of a 30-year-old disabled woman, whose state has now been attributed to endosulfan as well.

Taluk Health Officer has sent the list of seven new cases to the Tahshildar, who has in turn forwarded the same to the government.

Tahshildar Purandar Hegde said that the list may be approved by the government soon and by February end the new cases too will be eligible for government benefits.
