NITK Holds Int’l Conference on “Sustainable Infrastructure”

Mangaluru: The Department of Civil Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal is hosting a two-day International Conference on “Sustainable Infrastructure: Innovations, Opportunities and Challenges(SIIOC 2024)” April 30  and 1 May, 2024.

The official inauguration of the International Conference-SIIOC 2024 was held at NITK Surathkal. More than 300 participants will present papers on hybrid mode.

Policy makers, Administrators, Practitioners, industrialists, scientists, researchers, academics, and students from all over the world are among the paper presenters.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Prof. T G Sitharam, Chairman AICTE, New Delhi, who served as the Chief Guest.

Prof Darren Chain Siau Chen, Associate Professor, National University of Singapore (NUS), was the Guest of Honor.

Prof. B. Ravi, Director, NITK Surathkal was the Chief Patron,

Prof. Subash C Yaragal, HOD Civil Department, NITK was the Patron for the International Conference.

The dignitaries felicitated Prof. Katta Venkataramana, a senior professor from the Civil Engineering Department at NITK Surathkal, for his significant contributions to the field of civil engineering.

The conference provides a platform for deliberations on developing solutions that mitigate the impact of infrastructure on ecology and environment.

Research and case studies on challenges, underlying opportunities and innovative ideas for the development of sustainable infrastructure will be presented and discussed.

The conference is focused on themes such as : Seismic Resilient Infrastructure, Climate Action, Innovations in Composite Structure, Low Carbon Building Technologies and Affordable Housing, Utilization of Industrial Wastes for Constructions, Design and Constructions for Green Highways, Urban Transport and Traffic Management, Challenges for Soil Improvement and Ground Stabilization, Solid Waste Management, Dam Engineering, Disaster Risk Reduction, Transportation Geotechnics, Earthquakes and Landslides, Retrofitting and Rehabilitation, Smart Growth etc.

In his address, Prof. T G Sitharam emphasized the significant dependence of a nation’s development on the establishment of sustainable infrastructure.

He expressed confidence in India achieving the status of ‘Amrit Kaal, Viksit Bharat‘ before 2047 and encouraged all participants to contribute innovative and sustainable solutions.

He highlighted the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2023 and expressed his firm belief that sustainable development is achievable through the adoption of sustainable practices and an increase in research and development projects.

Prof. B Ravi, Director of NITK, extended his sincere gratitude to the esteemed guests, conference speakers, and participants, both online and offline.

He stressed the need to integrate modern advancements with ancient wisdom in infrastructure development and highlighted the indispensable role of academia and industry in these endeavors.

Dr Raviraj H.M. Dr Sreevalsa Kolathayar and Dr Pavan, from the Civil Engineering Department, NITK Surathkal, are the organizing chairs of the International Conference SIIOC-2024.
