Mangalore : Amrit Paul, an IPS officer of the 1995 batch, took charge as the Western Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Monday May 26 in the presence of several top police officials including Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra and Dakshina Kannada SP Dr Sharanappa.




The new IGP was also given a guard of honour on his arrival at his office at Pandeshwar to take charge. The post of IGP was hitherto handled by Commissioner R Hithendra as interim in-charge as ANF Commander Seemanth Kumar Singh who was given the additional responsibility had not taken charge.
The post has been lying vacant ever since the earlier incumbent Pratap Reddy was transferred.
The new IGP has assured top most priority to the maintenance of peace in the Western Range. Amrit Paul has until now served the Department at various posts. His career began at Bhalki in Bidar in 1998. He has also served as SP of Udupi district from 2000 to 2003 and as Assistant IGP (Crime) and SP of Bellary. He last served as DIG(Internal Security) at Bangalore before being posted as IGP of Western Range.
