New DC Jagadeesha bats for overall development of Mangaluru

Mangaluru: “I have come to Mangaluru with an open mind and I am happy to note the growth of the city. Any growing city has its own problems and I will study them and take whatever action that is required for the betterment of city,” said the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr.K.G.Jagadeesha on Monday, August 1, after he took over as the new DC of the district.

Speaking to media, he said that he had not worked in the coastal district till date, but with the help and co-operation of media, public and people’s representatives, he would put in sincere efforts to perform in the right direction.

While interacting with the media, it was pointed out that former DC Ibrahim had himself expressed unhappiness on failing to get an effective law passed on sand mining. Sand mining has gone to the extent of dredging using mechanized mining and unchecked and illegal mining continues.

The necessity for a good transport system for Dakshina Kannada and Mangaluru city was emphasised, for which he said that we have to evolve an effective policy. The unhealthy growth of the city was pointed out to which he said that he would have to study the issue and take necessary action after consulting all the stake holders. The media placed a few others issues before the new DC as well.

“I assure you that, I will put all my efforts to take the good work done by the earlier DC to its logical end. We will continue to meet often and interact for getting myself better appraised about the district and its problems. Let us work together,” said Jagadeesha.

On this occasion, Shashidhar Shetty, president of National Environment Care Federation, gave a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner along with a study made on Environment in Dakshina Kannada for the last two and half years.
