Nethravathi Rakshana Samiti stages hunger stir against Yettinahole project

Mangaluru: Nethravathi Rakshana Samyukta Samiti staged a day-long hunger stir, against the proposed Yettinahole project, on Thursday, March 17, outside Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Addressing the protesters, Kemaru Sandeepani Math Seer Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji said that there has been a strategic and planned attack on Dakshina Kannada district over the last several years in the form of MRPL, SEZ, Nagarjuna power plant etc.

Calling upon the people of the district to wake up to the situation now, the Seer said that there is no way but to stay united to fight against the atrocities meted out upon the region.

Parish priest of Rosario Fr J B Crasta said the summer has not even set its foot into the district and the region is already struggling to get adequate drinking water.

“The project is not for us,” he said adding that there is now a need to intensify the struggle because the project is being forced down the throat of the people of Dakshina Kannada.

Former deputy mayor Purushottham Chitrapur, Activist M G Hegde, Ramachandra Baikampady, Anand Shetty Adyar, Bhaskar, Rahim Uchil, Dinaker Shetty and others were part of the protest.
