Natl Surfing championship from May 27-29 on beaches of Sasihithlu

Mangaluru: National Surfing Championship organised by Mantra Surf Club in association with Kanara Surfing and Water Sports Promotion Council will be held from May 27 to 29 at Sasihitlu Beach, Mangaluru.

Addressing a news conference on Friday, Mantra Surf Club President Kishore Kumar said that the three day national championship will be held in four categories- Under-16, Junior boys-17 to 22 yrs, Senior men- 22 to 28 yrs and Masters men for those above 28 yrs.

There will be an open men’s category for international surfers.

Prize worth about Rs 6 lakhs will be distributed among winners.

“Participants from Dubai, Maldives, Sri Lanka will also take part in the competition. A panel of international judges will be judging the events and as of now 50 participants have registered their name through online registration,” he said adding that the numbers may cross 100 before May 24.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Chandrasekhar congratulated the district administration for organizing this event.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim sought co-operation from all for the event.

DC felicitated Mishal Queeni D’Costa for securing 387th rank in UPSC exams and said that youngsters should concentrate on building a better future and a better nation rather than involving in anti-social activities. “Mishal is role model,” he said.

The DC said that the rainfall that lashed over the last two days had slightly increased the water level at Thumbe, further the Lakya dam water too has been tested and has been found fit for consumption.
