Mangaluru: The makers of Tulu film ‘Namma Kudla’, which hit the screens on April 8 have alleged foul play as seven theatres removed the movie off the screens within one week of release.
The crew backed by Tulu organisations has warned the theatres of intense protest if the theatre owners do not mend their ways.
Addressing the press meet Film producer Hrish Nayak said on Saturday that the movie was released across Dakshina Kannada in 13 theatres, but within a week, seven theatre owners have canceled the shows, explaining that they need to give better space for Tamil and Hindu films.
Tulu Rakshana Vedike Founder President Yogish Shetty Jeppu said that there is lot of competition in the film industry, but the point is that if humble attempts to bring Tulu on national map through films are not being supported by local theatre owners, who will support such endeavors.
“The local theatre owners should have some loyalty to the land where they are born. By screening Tamil and Hindu movies, discriminating Tulu, they are harming Tulu language,” he said adding that there was an immediate need to form Tulu Film Producers’ Association to stay united and fight against such discriminations.
Vedike members were present.
