Sullia: Not knowing the actual reasons behind teacher transfers, students’ protests have become very common across the State.

Kadikadka village was no different as more than 100 students staged protest against the transfer of two teachers with the support of public, school alumni and parents. The school development council (SDC) members threatened to resign, and said that the parents will stop sending students, if the orders are not withdrawn.

Speaking on the occasion, KM Babu said, the government is bowing to pressure from private school lobbies and transferring teachers putting little children’s future in jeopardy.

Protestors unhappy with education department’s response

When the Block educational officer (BEO) did not come to address their problem, they showed their anger by shouting slogans and insisted on his presence to hear their grievances. Education department’s resource official, Veena tried to pacify the protestors, but they were not convinced to her words and kept on shouting slogans against the government.

Reason behind protests

The school which has classes from Class 1 to 7 had five teachers including head master and physical education teacher. Science and Hindi language teachers were transferred by the recent order of the government. This drew the ire of parents and students in a school which has more than 100 students ultimately leading to protests.

SDC President Khadar, old student’s Union president Mohideen and other members of the school committee led the protestors. They urged in one voice to withdraw the transfer orders as the school will be left with only HM, an assistant teacher and a physical education teacher.

The protests have become common as students express their anguish by shedding tears against the government’s decision. In one case, an SMS sent by a Class 8 student, Divith Rai from Puttur to the state home minister gave respite to students after the transfer orders of four high school teachers was withheld.
