Mangalore: The Muslim Central Committee President KSM Masood has condemned the incident of the killing of a Muslim youth Kabeer by Anti Naxal Force (ANF) personnel in Sringeri on Saturday and demanded for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

Agitating over the incident, Masood said that the bullet was shot on the chest of Kabeer, which suggests that it was a well executed encounter by ANF sleuths. Police have only manipulated the fact, by claiming that the bullet was shot by mistake. Adding to the grief, the family members of Kabeer were attacked by right-wing ‘rowdis’ when they went to Chikmagalur to claim their son’s body into their possession.

The Muslim leader firmly said that the Committee is not interested in communicating with the IGP or the deputy commissioner regarding the matter of killing, but demanded for the direct intervention of the chief minister. The home minister will be made responsible for the future consequences, if the government fails to hand over the case to the CBI, he warned.

Urge for higher Compensation

He said Rs five lakh compensation offered by Chikmagalur district administration to Kabeer’s family was not acceptable, and demanded  for a minimum compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the family, considering the young age of the deceased.

However, Committee Vice President and District Congress Committee In-charge President Ibrahim Kodijal expressed satisfaction over the CID inquiry into the killing. Ministers from Dakshina Kannada and MLA Mohiudeen Bava have interacted with the chief minister and have demanded for CID probe, for which the CM has agreed in-principle, he said.

Meanwhile, he called upon the Muslim youth not to be carried away with emotions and to maintain peace and harmony. Leaders from Ahinda and Jamat-e-Islam were also present.
