Mangalore: In a shocking incident here, a 20-year-old youngster, attempted to murder a 30-year-old man at Vamanjoor, when the latter had stopped for food.
The victim has been identified as Santosh Kottari, son of Eshwar Kothari. The incident took place at around 1 PM at the Vamanjoor Check Post, when he was on his way for lunch. The perpetrator of the crime has been identified as Pawan, son of Rowdy Sheeter Vamanjoor Rohi, who was murdered in 2009. It is said Pawan was accompanied by Arif and Asif of Moodshedde, reportedly wanted to kill Santosh, as he was involved in the murder of his father.
It is learnt that Santosh Kottari and Pawan, were friends and generally moved in the same social circle. Eyewitnesses said that when Santosh stopped at the check post and got down from his vehicle to proceed for lunch, Pawan approached him and they had a conversation. As the conversation drew to a close and Santosh turned to go, Pawan hit him on the back of the head with a sharp weapon. Santosh ran to a nearby shop, picked up a weight stone and turned to fight back, however Pawan had fled. Santosh is currently undergoing treatment for ihed injuries at the A J Inistitute of Medical Scienes here.
Sources say that Pawan, the 20 year old son of Rohit Vamanjoor, was suspended from the Raymond PU college after he threatend his lecturer with a knife.
Santosh Kottari (31) works for the Mangalore City corporation. He is known to be an active BJP Member. His brother Rajesh Kottari is the general secretary of the BJP Mangalore North Constituency. Unconfirmed sources said that Santosh was involved in the murder of Vamanjoor Rohi.
According to the hospital authorities, currently Santosh’s condition is stable and he is out of danger.
