Multi-storied building constructions must stop till water storage level improves: DC

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that, all the multi storied building constructions should be stopped for the next 15 days like the industrial units which had stopped production in the wake of water scarcity.

During the meeting with the Mayor, MCC Commissioner and Technical Engineers held at the DC’s Office today, he said that, the water level at Thumbe vented dam is very low.

“It is difficult to provide water for construction purpose at this juncture. Most of the industries have stopped their production units. In the same way multi storied building constructions also should be stopped till water situation improves,” he said.

He further said that, for the proper supply of drinking water all the borewells and open wells at schools and colleges should be identified and those should be used as water resources.

“MCC should educate all the people to inform the concerned authorities about local water resources and to register such locations,” he said.

Regarding water supply from Lakya dam, the DC has issued an order permitting MCC to use Lakya dam water for drinking purposes only. MCC should bear the entire cost of supply of water from the dam. It is mentioned in the order that Lakya dam water is available till the end of this month only and not permanent.

Mayor Harinath, MCC Commissioner Gopalkrishna, Karnataka Water Supplying Board Engineer Nataraj and others were present.
