Mulki: There have been several complaints of late that the Kolnadu and Linggappaiah Kadu areas in Mulki Town Panchayat limits have turned into mosquito breeding centres, thanks to the unhygienic conditions prevailing there.

When this correspondent contacted the Ward 13 BJP member Shankravva, she admitted the problem. This was what she said “ It’s true my ward as well as several other wards in the town are stinking. In the past, hand carts used to be brought to clear garbage. But this practice has stopped now. Drains are filled with silt and rain water flows on the road. The Town Panchayat has not taken any step to clear the drains. Even some roads are in bad shape,” she said adding people often come to her with complaints.
The member also stated that the Town Panchayat President has only been giving assurances but doing nothing. She also assured full co-operation if the residents decide to take up the case and launch a protest. She also admitted that the words of the members had no weightage in the Panchayat.
On a visit to the Town Panchayat office, it came to light that the Panchayat President is away in Bangalore on a training and will be back in another three to four days.
The Panchayat Chief Officer Vani V Alva however evaded a proper reply and asked to speak to the Panchayat Chief on his return. She on the other hand, hurled an allegation against the Town Panchayat Member Shankravva that she had been to the Panchayat office only thrice so far, that too twice for a meeting and once to contact her.
