Karkala: A mother and her 3-year-old son were killed after a speeding pickup jeep rammed into their two-wheeler here on June 26 near Kalya Halekatte.

Shrevanth and his mother Soumya (28), residents of Belman Janthra Pilar are the deceased. Soumya’s husband Ganesh suffered serious injuries and is said to be critical. He is undergoing treatment at Manipal hospital.

It is learnt that when they were heading towards Halekatte from Nelligudde, a pickup jeep from the opposite direction rammed into their bike. Rash driving and over speeding by the driver is said to be the reason behind the mishap.

A case has been registered at Karkala Rural police station.
