Mangalore : M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas visited Perne, the place near Uppinangady which was a witness to the horrific LPG tanker tragedy that claimed ten lives.
Moily met the next of kin of those killed as well as the families of the injured and those who lost their houses and livelihood in the tragedy and consoled them.
Later, speaking to reporters Moily said the oil transporters and the insurance companies are legally liable when such mishaps take place.
He further said the oil companies alone cannot be held responsible. Moily further said talks are also being held with the oil companies to see to it that they came to the assistance of the affected families at least on humanitarian grounds.
At the same time, Moily refused to divulge anything more stating that
it may be a violation of the model poll code of conduct.
