Mangalore:A mega campaign on petroleum conservation organised by HPCL and Maco Co-operative Society Ltd, was inaugurated on October 14, Monday by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M Veerappa Moily.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the Union Petroleum Ministry was willing to offer subsidy for cycle stands and to buy bicycles in an effort to save fuel if local administrative bodies are willing. He said he and all officials in his ministry have saved Rs 2 crore in one week by travelling by public transport every Wednesday. He said his ministry has already issued a circular to all Chief Ministers, central ministries and heads of Public Sector Undertakings urging them to use public modes of transport once in a day every week.
The petroleum and natural gas ministry will take measures to reduce the import of crude oil by 2020,Moily said.
State Minister for Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain, Legislators Moidin Bava, JR Lobo, Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present on the occasion.
