M’luru floods: DC Senthil hands over relief cheques to victim’s families

Mangaluru: Four lives were lost in the incessant rains that lashed across the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday, May 29.

Mohini (55), a resident of Udaynagar at KPT and Mukta Bai (80), a Kodialbail resident were among the four killed due to the rain fury in Mangaluru. While Mohini was buried alive after the collapse of a retaining wall, an ailing Mukta Bai is said to have lost her balance and drowned in the water.

A day after the incident, Mangaluru Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Wednesday, May 30 visited the bereaved families and handed over compensation cheques of Rs five lakhs, as announced by the state government to the families of the victim.

In Padubudri, Udupi Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis visited the family of nine-year-old Nidhi Acharya who got washed away in the flash floods and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lac for the bereaved family.
