Mangaluru: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Varun Alva, who chased a mobile thief in a cinematic fashion on Wednesday January 12 has won a reward of Rs. 10000 from Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar for his swift act.

ASI Varun is already an internet sensation after his act of chasing down a mobile phone thief was caught on camera and went viral. As the mobile thief snatched away phone from a granite worker, the latter raised in alarm following which Varun who was stationed at the spot along with a team of policemen gave a chase and successfully nabbed the thief.

It is said that the accused with his accomplice was involved in several thefts and robberies in the City.
