Mangaluru: After the Pumpwell flyover developed cracks after just one rainfall, MLC Ivan D’Souza demanded a probe into the construction work for the project.
The MLC inspected the Pumpwell flyover on Monday, April 27, and urged both then Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAl) to investigate the matter.
“Even though the construction work took a decade to complete, the work was undertaken in a hurry. Now that the flyover has developed cracks after just one rainfall, it is evident that the work was sub-standard and was a waste of the government’s funds. Hence, a probe should be launched immediately,” he stressed.
It can be noted that Mangaluru city witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, following which the flyover developed huge cracks. It may be recalled that the flyover was left incomplete for various reasons for around 10 years and it was finally inaugurated on January 31 this year.
Ivan D’Souza was accompanied by Ashith Pereira, James Praveen, Bhaskar Rao, Gururaj, Raghuram, Shridhar Shetty Kadekar, Habubullah and Bazil during his inspection of the flyover.
