Mangaluru: A group of unidentified miscreants pelted stones a a government-owned bus and burnt tyres on the road at Adyar, on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, in the wee hours of Monday. The police are yet to arrest the miscreants.

According to the Mangaluru Rural Police, miscreants first burnt the tyre at Adyar, on the National Highway. Soon after, they pelted stone at the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Rajahamsa bus, which was plying from Bengaluru to Kundapura. As a result, the front windshields and side glasses are damaged. No passengers were hurt, the police said.
Earlier, Hindu Jagarana Vedike called for Mangaluru Bandh, after Commissioner of Police arrested one of their members Manoj Thokur and invoked the Goonda Act. However, the vedike postponed the bundh and decided to hold a protest meet in Surathkal on Monday.
It’s learnt that some who were not aware of the cancellation of Mangaluru bandh, may have resorted to this act, sources in the police said.
KSRTC officials registered a complaint at the Mangaluru Rural police station. The police are inspecting the spot.
