Minor fire incident in NICU of Lady Goschen Hospital: No casualties reported

Mangaluru: Fire broke out at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the pediatric section in Lady Goschen Hospital on Sunday, December 9. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported and the five infants at MICU were shifted to district Wenlock Hospital.

According to the sources, fire was spotted at a phototherapy machine of NICU, where newborn babies being kept, at around 1 pm. Soon after the incident, all five infants at NICU were shifted to district Wenlock Hospital and the fire was doused immediately, sources said.

Dr. Savitha, Medical Superintendent of Lady Goschen Hospital, when contacted informed that though it was a minor fire accident, all precautionary measures were taken and infants were safely shifted to the Wenlock Hospital.

Though all major sections of the hospital have been shifted to the new hospital building, which is located adjacent to the old building, the NICU of the pediatric section has been functioning in the old building.
