
Mangaluru: A total allocation of Rs 500 Crore has been in the budget for the promotion and development of sports activities throughout the state, said Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports Rahim Khan.
Speaking to reporters at Circuit House on Monday, February 4, Rahim Khan said that as the sports activities needed greater exposure, more funds should be earmarked in the budget. Hence, four sports centres would be set up with international standards at four different locations. There is also a proposal for constructing a sports university”, he said.
When reporters drew his attention towards playgrounds which are being used for political programmes and exhibitions, Rahim Khan said there was a plan to reserve the playgrounds for the sports activities alone and ban other programmes. A discussion will be held shortly to take a final decision in this regard”, he said.
Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader and other leaders like Mohammed Monu, A C Vinay Raj, Mamatha Gatti, Ishwar Ullal among others were present.
