Moodbidri : The 88 year old Bangabettu Higher Primary School at Mijar located adjacent to the Moodbidri-Mangalore Highway is in a dilapidated state and students are facing fears of collapse of the building during the ensuing monsoons. There is an urgent need for the authorities to take serious cognizance of the poor condition of the building and repair it at the earliest.






The school located around 5 km away from Moodbidri has educated and shaped the lives of thousands of students till date. It has a campus spreading around 83 cents and the building us located on all the four directions. There is also a kutcha mud building constructed way back in 1926. The walls of this building have developed cracks, while the condition of other buildings too is not worth mentioning.
The ceiling beams, roof tiles are also in sorry state. A huge banyan tree has grown adjacent to the school wall and there is a need for the Forest department to fell the tree. Also most windows of the school are termite-eaten and the broken iron rods of the windows are inviting constant danger to the students.
Even the iron doors for the school Rangamandir are rusted and ruptured and may harm students. The Anganavadi building in the school campus also in a bad shape.
Presently over 300 students are studying in the school and more students can be enrolled provided the school has a good building and is equipped with all facilities.
“We are forced to attend classes amid fear of collapse of building. Children right from Anganavadi upto seventh standard are studying here. We can listen to the lessons without any fear if the building is repaired,” says Fathima, a student.
Even the school headmaster Narayana M has urged the authorities concerned to repair the school building at the earliest.
