Mangaluru: Merrill Rego was elected as the general secretary for the state of Karnataka Youth Congress in the Indian Youth Congress elections which were held in January.

He secured 3,553 votes and was the only winning candidate from Dakshina Kannada and other nearby districts. Merrill visited Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and sought his blessings.

Merrill is active in the Congress party since his college days. He was the office bearer of district Youth Congress earlier.
