Mangaluru: After gathering opinions from various people, the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill was implemented by the government, revealed MP Nalin Kumar Kateel at a programme on October 7 here.
He was addressing a programme on “GST- Merits and Demerits.”
“Many people have contributed to the implementation of the GST Bill. Since 10 years there have been discussions on GST by various parties. It was implemented only after gathering opinions from various sections of people. One country should have one tax system was the dream of the prime minister. While taking major decisions, the problems are natural and it is the responsibility of the government to solve the same”, MP said.
He also said that the PM had directed all the MPs in the country to discuss on the merits and demerits of the GST in their respective constituencies. “After gathering opinions from various stakeholders, they will be sent to PM’s office by October 9. The intention is to bring the problems of GST to the notice of PM”, he said.
Chartered Accountant Jaganath Kamath said, “We are going through a period of crisis because of GST. We are discussing about the GST from the past 15 years. The demerits of the bill will be understood only after implementing it. After GST was implemented, it was a challenge for all the professionals. But we always should think about the future of the country and how it affects the people in the long run.”
