Medical students were in a car when it crashed late on Saturday night in Babbukatte, near Thokkottu. Fortunately, they only suffered minor injuries.
The impact of the crash broke a high-tension power pole. The majority of the power outage was experienced by the locals till Sunday afternoon.
When the tragedy occurred, the students were on their way from Thokkottu to Deralakatte, where they were attending a medical college. They tried to pass a tipper truck, but the driver turned right at the same moment. The driver of the car made a sudden left turn, losing control of the vehicle in an attempt to avoid colliding with the truck.
The vehicle struck the power pole, careened into the iron railing beside the road, and eventually flipped over.
As more drivers came by, they hurried to assist and managed to extract the pupils from the vehicle. Fortunately, all of them sustained only minor injuries. The car was removed from the scene around noon on Sunday, and a new electricity pole was installed.
A case related to this incident has been registered at the south traffic police station in the city.
