Medical negligence claims boy’s life at Belthangady

Belthangady: A medical centre in Badyar near Belthangady is accused of negligence in treatment that led to the death of a 15-year old boy on Thursday.

In a complaint registered in Belthangady police station, Kiran (15) underwent an operation at Father L M Pinto Health Centre, Badyar on December 6. Kiran had fever on December 8 for which doctor administered medicine. He developed complications and on the advice of the doctor he was shifted to a private hospital in Manglauru, where he died around 5am.

Incidentally, his mother Leelavati too had been admitted at Badyar hospital about 6 months ago, and she too had a sudden death in the hospital, family sources said.

As a result, nearly 500 people gathered in front of the hospital – protesting against the management for their negligence. Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, president of Praja Prabhutva Vedike led the protest.
