Measures on anvil to step up security in Manipal varsity campus : Udupi DC

Manipal : The Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr MT Reju convened a meeting of Manipal  University officials, representatives of Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union and CMC members  to discuss the measures to be taken to step up security arrangements  following the recent gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University.

The meeting decided to set up ten traffic monitoring points  in the Manipal University campus and also to install CCTV cameras at several points to enhance security.
Dr GK Prabhu, Registrar of Manipal University, who was also present, said the Manipal University authorities were thinking in terms of providing security vehicle to students who leave the campus after 10 pm.

The Manipal University authorities were also instructed to have bright street lights within the campus. The meeting further decided to provide Unique Identification Numbers to all autorickshaw drivers.

Deputy Commissioner Dr MT Reju also issued instructions to the officials concerned to see to it that bar and restaurants did not function beyond the stipulated time.
Dr Boralingaiah, Udupi District Superintendent of Police and other officials attended  the meeting.
