Mangaluru: Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. (MCF), a fertiliser company located in Panambur, has supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign and prepared a three-phase action plan in order to eradicate single-use plastics.
MCF director K Prabhakar Rao (Works) told reporters here on Friday, September 20, that the company has already conducted awareness programmes in educational institutions and townships of the industry by involving the employees, local bodies and public in its first phase.
“Under the second phase, the MCF will conduct a shramadan with our employees, students and the staff of educational institutions and collect plastic waste. Under phase three, activities will be arranged with local recyclers, local bodies and other organisations like the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Central Institute for Plastic Engineering and Technology, in the second week of October. During this phase, more importance will be given to the collection of used plastic items from different institutions for recycling,” he informed.
“Although fertilizer bags are made of plastic, the quality of such bags are different. They have multiple layers and can be used for other purposes as well. They can last for about 10 years. We have already urged our agencies to collect such bags from local areas also, so as that they can be reused. We are making efforts to extend our cooperation towards the Prime Minister’s ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign which is aimed at plastic waste management towards the effective ban of single-use plastics,” Rao added.
Chief General Manager Gireesh, Safety Genral Manager B Krishnappa, DGM T Suresh and others were present.
