Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur stated that the upcoming council meeting on Thursday will address the issue of a property tax hike, aiming to alleviate the burden on citizens.
During a phone-in program on Wednesday, a caller from Bejai expressed concern about a 70% increase in property tax under SAS. The mayor explained that the previous council meeting had approved a 3% hike based on the 2021 guidance value.
However, the MCC commissioner claimed a revision in the guidance value in October 2023, resulting in a significant increase of 100 to 200% in property tax for city dwellers.
The decision on property tax will be made during the upcoming council meeting. Mayor Shetty Kannur also mentioned receiving numerous public queries about property tax, citing an instance where US Mallya’s house saw a notable increase from Rs 8,476 to Rs 40,000 in property tax.
