Mangaluru: In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (covid-19) in the city, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde asked the owners of salons and beauty parlours to shut shop until further notice.

In this connection, Hegde sent out a circular to the associations of both salons and beauty parlours, asking them to shut their shops from Saturday, March 21, till the next order. In the circular, the MCC states that the virus continues to spread despite the various preventive measures being taken in the state. In order to monitor the situation, the MCC has decided to shut all salons and beauty parlours temporarily and has asked the owners of salons and beauty parlours to cooperate.

As the district administration has already issued directions to close gyms, swimming pools, parks etc., the whole city has turned into a virtual ‘ghost town’. The city’s streets wore a partially deserted look on Friday, March 20. Though malls, hotels and others were kept open, very few people were seen in the streets. The city might look even more deserted after the MCC’s latest order to shut salons and beauty parlours.
