MCC launches 37 new trucks for waste collection in city limits

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), in its bid to improve waste disposal mechanism, has launched 37 new vehicles for the same purpose, in front of the MCC building at Lalbhag on Friday, September 2.
Launching the vehicles belonging to Anthony Waste Mangament Company, which has the contract of waste collection in the MCC Limits, Mayor Harinath said that there are loopholes in waste disposal system, which will be addressed soon. He urged the officials to work in such a manner that vehicles reach nook and corner of the city to collect waste. “We are in third slot in waste management in the country, but we aim to become the number one,” he said.

Standing Committee for Health President Kavitha Sanil informed that the MCC will soon dedicate one day in a week to collect dry waste while wet waste would be collected throughout the week.

MLA of Mangaluru North constituency Moideen Bawa, Former mayor Lancelot Pinto, Shashidhar Hegde, deputy mayor Sumithra Kariya, leader of opposition in MCC Roopa Bangera and others were present at the occasion.
