MCC election: Polling on Nov 12, counting on Nov 14

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh informed that candidates contesting for the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) election should file their nomination on or before October 31.

Addressing the reporters on Wednesday, October 23 she said that the scrutiny of the nominations will be held on November 2 and the last date for withdrawing nomination is November 4.  The election will be held on November 12 between 7 am and 5 pm and if re-elections are necessitated, it will be conducted on November 13. The counting will be held on November 14 from 8 am onwards.

Sindhu informed that the election expenditure of a candidate should not exceed Rs 3 lakh and expenditure observers have been deployed to look after the election expenditure of every candidate. The model code of conduct has been clamped already and nodal officer for its enforcement has been deployed. Maximum importance has been given for smooth functioning of the election, she said.

Heavy rain: 33 houses partially damaged and nine houses severely damaged again

Informing about the heavy rain that lashed from the past few days, Sindhu informed that a total of nine houses have been severely damaged and 33 houses were damaged partially in different parts of Dakshina Kannada district. As per the government direction, Rs 5 lakh will be provided for those family which lost their house completely and Rs 50,000 will be provided for the partially damaged houses. The monthly house rent also will be provided to those who lost their houses and are residing in rented houses, she informed.

MCC Commissioner Shanadi Ajith Kumar Hegde, Additional Deputy Commissioner M J Roopa and Nodal officer for election model of conduct Rahul Shinde were present.
