Mangalore: A structure owned by the Sarvajanika Ganeshotava Samiti at Marakada near Kavoor was demolished by the MCC officials, claiming it to be a governmental land, on Saturday August 2.

During an MCC council meeting held  on July 31, corporator of Kunjathbail Mohammed brought  to the notice of the Council that a part of the building has come up on the 150 meter government land reserved for road.  He further demanded to demolish the structure which was mainly being used by the Ganeshotsava Samiti.

Sunil, Joint Director of Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti has  alleged that political influence had driven the MCC to take this step. He also said that the Marakada corporator Harinath had promised that the building would not be demolished. However, within three days of the council meeting, the MCC has demolished it under the influence of Mohammed, he alleged.

On the contrary, despite a complaint, police have not taken any action against a  relative of  Mohammed who had built a house on government land,”  Sunil said.

A few people who were against the demolition gathered at the spot and protested.
