Mangalore: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials and as well as the Kankanady Market Traders Association members carried out a cleanliness drive to observe the ‘Rastriya Swachata Abhiyan’ on Wednesday October 29 at the Kankanady Market, Mangalore.

MCC environmental engineer Madhu S M, MCC health officer Dr Manjayya Shetty, MCC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak, Ward Corporator Naveen D’Souza, Kankanady Market Traders Association president Ali Hasan, Kankanady Market Traders Association secretary Roshan Patrao and shop owners joined hands in cleaning the area.
Addressing the media MCC in-Charge Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that ‘Rastriya Swachata Abhiyan’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a positive initiative, therefore the MCC is joining hands with other organizations with an aim to keep the city clean.
Recently the Mayor Mahabala Maarla started ‘Swatch Bharath Mission’ project on October 2, 2014 on Gandhi Jayanthi. The programme is expected to continue until November 25, 2014 wherein clean-up drives will be taken up by different organizations.
So far 66 programmes we have done along with various organisations. Valencia, Milagres, Morgansgate, Falnir Road, Bejai Road, KSRTC, Rosario Church, Fr Muller hospital and many more palces are to be cleaned, Nayak added.
Moreover the MCC in-Charge Commissioner also assured of cleaning one place in the city on a daily basis.
It was also learnt that on November 1, 2014 – Rajyotsava, various organisations along with the MCC will join hands in cleaning the city.
