Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has asked all large scale waste-generating establishments and apartments in the city to set up their own waste management units on their premises and has set a deadline of October 31 in this regard.
Addressing mediapersons here on Friday, October 11, MCC Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde said, “MCC will not be collecting waste from large scale waste-generators in the future and all large scale waste-generators should set up waste-processing units in their premises by the end of October and they should handover dry waste to agencies recognised by the MCC.”
“Educational institutions, hostels, small industries, apartments, hotels, restaurants, marriage halls, catering services, merchants, chicken stalls, and other such massive waste-generators have also been asked to hand over dry waste to the authorised recycling agencies. Details of the authorised recycling agencies will be published on MCC’s website soon,” he added.
Informing about a workshop organised by the MCC, Shanady said, “MCC has already held a workshop on Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 exclusively for large scale waste-generators. They have also been provided information on waste-processing technology that is available on the market through another workshop. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the government to submit compliance reports regarding the implementation of rules once in three months. Accordingly, the government has directed all urban local bodies in the state to implement these rules strictly.”
