Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar has warned of legal action against those who encroach rajakaluves (main stormwater drain).

The Mayor issued the warning after a drive was launched to clear the encroachments at Bangrakuloor on Monday. Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar and other MCC members took the initiative to clear the encroachments.

In many areas, the encroachments have chocked the drains, thus resulting in artificial flooding in the city. As the drains were closed with concrete, the MCC could not remove the silt from the drains.

It is now very common that the main storm water drains overflow during heavy rains, which forces the nearby residents to evacuate. The main reason behind this is the encroachment of rajakaluves.
