Bantwal: The struggle has gained taluk-wide support seeking justice for the unforeseen death of Sarapady gram panchayat vice president Shakuntala who passed away during child-birth in a hospital here. The protesters staged a massive protest at B C Road, here on Saturday September 28, urging the law enforcing agencies and health authorities to take actions on the erring surgeons and the hospital.
Bantwal taluk social justice struggle Committee that was formed with 40 like-minded social welfare and voluntary organization including political leaders of different parties, led the massive protest in front of taluk office here on Saturday morning.

Over thousand people displaying black flags partaken in a massive protest rally that begun from Kaikamba – Polali welcome arch, B C Road, here passing through the national highway. The protesters hurled slogans against Saraswati Nursing Home, as the rally proceeded besides the healthcare facility. A protest meet was held at amphitheater that is located opposite taluk office here.

The former MLAs Padmanabha Kottari and Rukmaya Poojary, ZP members Mamata Gatti and Chandra Prakash Shetty, former ZP members Tungappa Bangera and Sulochana G K Bhat, town councilor Vasanti C, the Committee office bearers Dharmavati Gowda, Banuchandra Krishnapura, Satish Arala, Honnappa Kundar, Krishna Allipade, labor leader Chandappa Anchan, B Tammayya, Abbas Ali, Devdas Shetty urged the authorities to take action on the surgeons responsible for the death of Shashikala.
The taluk panchayat president Lalita Shivappa Naik, vice president Anand Shamboor, members Padmashekar Jain and Dinesh Amtoor, council members Sadashiv Bangea and Vasu Poojary, Billava leader Harikrishna Bantwal, Mayilappa Saian, ZP member Chennappa Kotian, BJP leaders G Anand and Ramdas Bantwal, Committee key office bearers Prabhakar Deivagudde, Kanchalakshi, Sanjeev, Shivappa Poojary, Sesappa Kotian Pacchinadka, Keshav Naik, Shaikh Abdul Razak, hundreds of women and office bearers of different social welfare and voluntary organizations were present on the occasion.
The Committee president Lokesh Shanti presided the protest meet.
Lokesh Shanti renounced the struggle will go on regardless of caste, creed and religion against the injustice caused to the victim Shakuntalas family.
The Committee secretary Sridar Amin welcomed the gathering and proposed vote of thanks.Baby Kundar and D M Kulal compered the protest meet.
Struggle till justice done
The protesters urged the state authorities to award maximum compensation to the victim;s family, to open state-run hospital for gynecology and delivery in Bantwal, to review the facilities in all private hospitals, to form a Committee of people chaired by Deputy Commissioner.
The protesters presented their memorandum to Tahsildar Malleswamy to forward the same to state authorities.
The taluk health officer Dr Manjunat, circle inspector Rajashekar B Mistry was also present.

THO Dr Manjunat after accepting the memorandum, offered assurances of taking issue during district-level health meeting scheduled to be held on October 9 and appropriate actions will be taken on the erring surgeon, said Dr Manjunat.He further said that modern delivery facility will be set up in the under construction one-hundred-bedded hospital in Bantwal, said Dr Manjunat.
