Sullia : Traffic on the Sullia-Madikeri state highway has been suspended following the huge cracks that have developed on the Highway at Koinadu Devarakolli near Sampaje. The road which had been damaged last week developed cracked yet again on August 5, Monday no sooner it was repaired and re-opened for traffic.
It was on August 4 that some temporary repair works were done and the road reopened for traffic. The road has collapsed five feet beneath on a 200 meter stretch at Koinadu. Presently, only two-wheelers are allowed on this road. The direct road link between Sullia and Madikeri has been cut off.
Senior officials including additional DC G Prabhu, Tahsildar Anil Kumar and KRDCL Mysore Divisional Executive Engineer Ashok inspected the road. Heavy rains coupled with unscientific works has led to the collapse of the road, feel locals.
It is said the loosened soil under the road due to the absence of side drains and also the gushing of water from the hilly area on both sides had led to the cracks.
