Puttur: A father of three is now behind the bars after being accused of raping a lady hailing from Schedule Caste on January 2.

It is said that Kumar Devadiga (41) hailing from Aryapu village of Puttur promised a domestic maid working in a house at Kallare in Puttur to find a good matrimonial match and on January 2, he took her out on pretext of taking her to an astrologer. After taking her out throughout the day, in the evening he took her to an isolated place and allegedly raped her.

The lady hailing from Panaje was employed at a residence in Kallare. When an acquaintance of the lady tried to bring a marital alliance for her, the accused intervened and promised of getting a better proposal. Later, citing that there was some problem in her horoscope he convinced the lady that he would take her to an astrologer to set right the problem. Initially the lady refused to come along, but after several days of meetings, she trusted him and left to meet the astrologer on Monday.

The accused took her on the bike to Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala and several other places and then took her to an astrologer. On their way back, at about 9 pm, the accused took the girl to an isolated place and raped her.

Later, the two came to Puttur city, when the lady messaged her friends that she was in trouble.

Seeing the lady, the locals grew suspicious and informed the police. The lady narrated the incident to the police and on Tuesday, the police nabbed the culprit.
