
Mangaluru: Surfing Swami Foundation, in association with Mantra Surf Club organised an event “Mantra Beach Clean-Up” which witnessed success with almost 150 students and adults from various colleges and institutions participating, on Sunday, September 22 in Mulky area.
The aim of the event was to keep environment clean and bring awareness to the local people regarding ocean and waste management. The students from Alva’s college and St.Aloysius college came in early to pick up the trash. Meanwhile, the students were briefed about how this trash ends up on the beach, how to segregate them into recyclable waste of glass, rubber and plastic and why one should be more aware of where they dispose the daily waste.
After three hours of picking and separating, the beach was successfully cleaned and the trash was forwarded for recycling. There was also a surfing demonstration to attract more and more people towards this exciting sport.
