Manipal gang rape case transferred to Dist. Sessions Court

Udupi :The  case of the gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University has been transferred from the Udupi Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court to the District and Sessions Court on August 30, Friday.

All documents pertaining to the case including the DNA report and charge sheet have been transferred to the Sessions Court.All rights pertaining to the hearing into the case are now vested with the District  Sessions Court. Police officials said  the District Sessions Court will henceforth decide on the date of hearing and the issue of extension of judicial custody period of the accused.

The three main accused Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand   were  brought from the Shimoga jail  and produced before the  Udupi Court on August 30, Friday. Even the other two accused Harindra and Balachandra who have been charged with destroying of evidences and are lodged in Udupi Court wee produced before the Udupi Court. The  magistrate  extended their judicial custody period and transferred the case to the Sessions Court.

The Sessions Court Judge will announce  the next date of  producing the accused before the court.
