Udupi : In what can be considered as a grim reminder of the Manipal gang rape case, a four year old girl studying in a primary school at Manipal has been allegedly sexually abused by three men who were working in the school bus and were also part-time autorickshaw drivers.
The incident took place on September 16 has come to light quite late and the police have already arrested two persons named Shubhakumar (24) of Hebri and Sudhir (16) of Adarshnagar on September 22, Sunday.
The girl is said to be three years and ten months old and a nursery student. She used to return home in the evening by the school bus. On September 16 after school hours, she missed her regular bus when the accused asked her to travel by another school bus. The School has a fleet of several school buses.
It is said the accused then sexually abused her in a parked bus. Meanwhile, the child’s parents on not seeing the girl back home as usual rushed to the school. However, by then she was dropped home by the accused in an autorickshaw making the parents suspicious. The horrific incident came to light two days later when the girl tried to explain the happening to her parents. The parents immediately informed the school authorities, however by then the accused were absconding and were arrested on Sunday. They were produced before the magistrate late in the night and remanded to judicial custody. Sources said they are likely to be produced before court again on Monday.
Police said even the school authorities may be booked if negligence was found on their part. It is said the parents were initially reluctant to lodge a complaint but did so on Saturday after the police convinced them that no action can be taken unless a complaint was lodged.
Police have launched a search for another accused in the case. The girl has been subject to medical examination.
