Mangaluru: As the state gears up for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, Mangaluru voters who find it difficult to locate their polling booths have got good news. For the first time in the state, the Election Commission will provide voter slips with QR codes that too the voters of Mangaluru city constituencies.
The aim of this move is to enhance the voting percentage in the Mangaluru city constituency limits. Voters of Mangaluru South and North constituencies will receive these slips, which, upon scanning the QR code, will provide details of their polling stations.
Many residents often find themselves wandering at the last moment in search of their polling stations. To alleviate this issue, officials will provide these slips equipped with QR codes. Voters can easily find the location of their polling station by scanning the code, said officials.
What other details do voters receive?
If a voter scans the QR code, they will receive details of their polling station, its location, distance from their current location, voting timings, routes, traffic details, and a photo of the polling station, all at their fingertips.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Mullai Muhilan, said Mangaluru city has experienced lower voter turnout, and to address this, the Election Commission has introduced this idea. He further stated that in the upcoming elections, more details will be provided through this initiative.
